7 Reasons Why You Should Become an Au Pair

Just like most people, I dreamed for exploring the globe.
As a young and recent high school graduate with limited fund this didn’t seem as an option.
Fast forward a couple of months and a community college semester later, I was on a plane
on my way to my new life as an au pair in France! It’s been many years since that experience
and I still see it as one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. And today I’ll be telling you the top
reasons why YOU should be an au pair!

First thing’s first - what the heck is an au pair?! An au pair is like a nanny abroad, but more.
This term, (au pair), comes from French, meaning “part of”. You in a way become a part of the family.
Now, to the list!

1 - Money $$$

See, I'd have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬

As an au pair, you’ll be getting that money, baby! Wooo! But you won’t be making the big bucks.
You’ll be making “pocket money” which can range from $100-200 depending on the country and family.
But you won’t be spending on food or housing - we’ll get to those details on reason number 6.

2 - Travel Opportunities

Here’s your chance! You can explore nearby cities, regions, countries.
The travel opportunities are endless!

3 - Cultural Exchange

Living abroad gives you a unique culture experience that the books, movies, tv shows will never give
you! Stop reading and hearing about it - check it out for yourself! You can understand different cultures
and people in a deeper level.

Grow your horizons.
Explore to learn.

4 - Connections

I’ve made some of the greatest friends abroad. Through travel you can make friends in different places
and hopefully make a new travel buddy + couch to crash on while you explore their hometown.

5 - Language Learning Opportunities

Living abroad is probably the best way to learn a new language! Within less than 10 months of living
in France I was already fluent.

6 - Housing + Food Are Covered
Food, housing, and you get paid?! What a deal!

7 - Learn About Yourself + Grow

Moving away from your family, friends, and everything that’s familiar really challenges you. Through
this experience you can grow, become independent, more confident, and truly get in touch with who
you are. (There is research to support this!)
