Top Free Things to do in Lima

Top Free Things to do in Lima

Let's connect!

This fall I took my first solo trip to South America and had an awesome time! The only thing that would've made it better is if I learned how to eat unhealthy foods without gaining weight while there. (A girl can dream right?!) Today I'm going to share the top FREE things on a budget so all the broke and cheap peoples, like me, can join in the adventures. ✧・゚: * So let's jump right in!

1. Free Walking Tours

I love love love free walking tours! Why? It's cheap and worth the time! I went on 2 walking tours while in Lima: Downtown Lima, Barranco & Chorillos with Lucuma Tours* and  Downtown Lima Strawberry Tours*. I highly recommend the Lucuma tour because it has a starting point in Miraflores and takes you to all the most touristic areas. It is a little rushed and tiring but you get to see a lot in a relatively short amount of time. Keep in mind that tipping is required!

TIP: Bring comfortable shoes, sunscreen, sunglass, water, and a hat!

*If you sign up for one of their tours, tell them I sent you!

2. Plaza Mayor

At the heart of Lima, this plaza offers you views for days! From here you can enjoy the yellow buildings and architecture influenced by the colonial period including the Government Palace, Cathedral of Lima, Archbishop's Palace of Lima, the Municipal Palace, and the Palace of the Union.

3. Government Palace

Enjoy a free daily live performance during the changing of the guards! Musical performance ranging from classical to urban hits.

4. Basilica and Convent of San Francisco

It's pretty. It's yellow. It's a piece of art! Check it out for yourself!

5. Casa de la Literatura Peruana

If you're an art fanatic like me, you definitely want to check this place out! The building used to be a train station and today it is used as library with a cafe offering exhibitions, programs & guided tours.

Shout out to the stranger who took this picture! πŸ˜‚

6. Park of love (Parque del Amor)

If you're looking for views, art, or want to feel like you're forever alone - this is the place for you! It has an incredible view of the beach (great place to watch the sunset). Also it has huge kissing sculpture and mosaic walls filled with love inspired quotes.

7. Street Art

There are bright colors and street art all over Lima. You just gotta make sure you're looking!

8. Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs)

Join in an old tradition and you may get your wish granted! They say that you can make a wish on this bridge and if you cross while holding your breath all the way to the end your wish will come true! Try it and let me know if it worked!

9. Kennedy Park (aka The Cat Park bka Crazy Cat Lady Heaven)

Cat lovers rejoice! This one is for YOU! This park has cats roaming around for you to pet and hang out with! Doesn't that sound nice? 😊

Use this Lima Bucket List Template to let everyone know what you've tried or would like to try!

Tell me: What are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!
